Most dangerous places are monitored. Few are understood.
People who work in complex physical environments are often on their own when it matters most.
Hazards are invisible.
Low oxygen, toxic gas, heat, and failing equipment give no warning until it is too late.
Data is scattered.
The sensors exist. Their readings sit across systems nobody is watching in real time.
Alarms are reactive.
They fire after a threshold is crossed, not when the trend that leads there begins.
Rescuers become victims.
In confined spaces, people who rush in after a collapsed coworker too often go down with them.
Meet Tandem
Tandem means working in tandem. Two riders, one direction. It is not a tool you operate and not a replacement for the person. It is the second member of a human and machine team.
An intelligence layer
It sits above the hardware and software already in a space and turns it into one shared understanding of that place.
Proactive
It does not wait to be asked. It notices trends, warns early, and tells people what they would want to know.
Adaptable
Tell it what kind of place this is. It builds the right context for that environment in real time.
Trustworthy
The AI can explain and suggest. It can never activate anything on its own authority.
One continuous loop.
Sense
Reads live data from sensor nodes and connected devices across the space.
The AI explains. The engine decides. People approve.
The engine, deterministic
- Runs the rules on every reading
- Measures trends
- Guards every action and approval
- Delivers emergency alerts
- Keeps a permanent history
The AI layer
- Reads equipment manuals and procedures
- Drafts proposed rules for humans to approve
- Explains what is happening and why
- Answers questions in plain language
- Helps connect new devices
The AI never has authority to activate anything. It proposes. The engine checks. Humans approve the important things.
When everything else fails, the alarm still works.
Every action goes through a deterministic rule engine and a single policy service. Tandem sorts each possible action into one of four levels.
Level A: Automatic
Low-stakes work it just does: logging, adjusting the sampling rate, updating the dashboard.Level B: Act and inform
It acts and tells the humans. Dispatching a scout drone. Notifying the attendant.Level C: Ask first
It must get human approval. Calling rescue. Stopping equipment.Level D: Deterministic emergency
Hard emergency alarms that run completely outside the AI.
The emergency alarm path works even if the AI, the internet, voice, the drone, and the dashboard all fail.
- Emergency messages are fixed, pre-written wording. The AI never improvises an alert.
- A sensor that is stale, missing, or disconnected is never treated as normal.
- Regulatory limits live in a locked library that customers cannot weaken.
- Rule changes require two-person approval.
- When two rules conflict, the strictest one wins and the conflict is flagged for a human.
- Everything is recorded in a permanent audit history.
A teammate you can talk to.
- Hands-free, on request.
- It wakes when the worker says “Tandem.” It is not always listening.
- It answers why.
- Not just “readings are normal.” It explains what it sees and what it means.
- It never acts on its own word.
- Spoken requests go to the engine for validation and approval.
- It stays on topic.
- The site, the devices, and outside conditions like weather. It is not a general chatbot.
Mission 001
Send the drone first, not the person.
Tandem’s first mission is confined-space industrial work: tanks, vaults, pits, sewers, and silos. The stakes are high and the problem is clear. Here is the demonstration, step by step.
A worker enters the space.
Three sensor nodes sit at the Entry, Mid, and Deep points, reading oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, and combustible gas. An attendant watches a live dashboard outside.
Tandem sees the trend.
Oxygen at the Deep node starts to fall slowly. It is still minutes away from the alarm limit. A threshold alarm would stay silent. Tandem does not.
It tells the people who need to know.
The worker hears it quietly through the earpiece. The attendant sees it on the dashboard. When the worker asks why, Tandem explains what it is seeing.
The drone goes first.
Instead of anyone going in to check, Tandem dispatches the scout drone to the Deep node. It acts, then informs the humans.
If the limit is crossed, the alarm is instant.
The hard alarm fires with fixed, pre-written wording. No AI is involved in that path. Everything that happened is recorded permanently.
One intelligence. Any environment.
A refinery, a warehouse, a farm, a home, a space habitat. The principles and the interface never change between them. Only the context does.
- 1Set up a site through normal onboarding.
- 2Tell Tandem what kind of environment it is.
- 3Tandem builds the right context on the spot.
- 4Every device added later inherits that context.

Wherever Tandem goes, three things stay the same: adaptability, proactivity, and trustworthy autonomy.
